The police inspector who registered a case and issued a notice to the organisers of ‘Shourya Prashikshana Varga’, a training camp event in which members of the right-wing organisation Bajrang Dal were given weapons like ‘guns’ and ‘trishuls’ has been transferred, according to reports.
However, senior officials in the police department say that his transfer had nothing to do with the case and he faced complaints from local residents in other issues.
Bajrang Dal workers held a training camp in Karnataka’s Kodagu district, in which more than 100 people took part. During the week-long training camp, participants were given weapons, and taught to practice shooting with air guns.
Following this, Popular Front of India (PFI) lodged a complaint and demanded an inquiry into the event. They claimed that air guns were used inside the school premises.
Karnataka Congress on Monday has demanded the arrest of Bajrang Dal leaders for giving arms training to young students in the school premises in Madikeri town of Kodagu.
“Arms training in Madikeri to young members by Bajrang Dal has challenged the law of our land. Do we have a Home minister or Education minister in Karnataka? Is the government still alive?” Congress leader Siddaramaiah had questioned.
Meanwhile, CT Ravi, National General Secretary and Bahratiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA CT Ravi claimed that the training camp was a part of a self-defence course, and that they were not trained in using AK-47’s and bombs. He said that every year, the Bajrang Dal trains its activists for self-defence.
